- Pray before submitting. Is the Holy Spirit leading you to write your story? Does it uplift the name of Jesus? This site’s purpose is to highlight the fact that we serve a living God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit - and that God cares personally about the lives of individual people. If you sense God’s nudge, then send your story this way.
- Each story will be a personal true event which demonstrates God’s supernatural intervention. Talk about one specific situation with an objective outcome.
- Each story will be approximately 300-1000 words.
- Use clear, direct language. Cut unnecessary details. Dive straight into the action and include dialogue where necessary. Consider the five senses and emotions involved and include where appropriate.
- Stories can be either first person POV (if writing about a personal account) or third person POV (if writing about another person). Use past tense.
- Standard Australian or British English is preferred, but American English will be accepted.
- Accepted submissions will be edited as required.
- A bible verse will accompany each story. Please include one appropriate verse.
- One or two photographs can be submitted with your submission. If you are not the photographer, please get signed permission from the person who took each photo. Photos are optional. An appropriate picture will otherwise be chosen for you.
- Your story must be true. No fiction. And no sermons, devotionals or essays. Creative non-fiction only.
- If you are not a confident writer, that's okay! If you believe God wants you to share your story, write down what you can. Keep it simple. If it is accepted, editing assistance will be provided.
- Email your stories to: shine_like_stars@yahoo.com or post to: Shine like Stars, P.O. Box 16, Hope Valley, SA 5090, Australia
Questions to Consider:
- What was the situation?
- Where did the event happen?
- Who was involved?
- How did you (or the main person involved) feel at the beginning and throughout this occurrence?
- How did God intervene?
- What change in circumstance did this lead to? (E.g. Healing? Salvation? Wisdom for a decision? Encouragement? A significant change in circumstance? Overcoming a difficulty? Repentance from sin? Protection in a dangerous situation? Something else?)
Here are some suggested topics:
- Salvation - how did you become a follower of Jesus Christ?
- Gift of Prophecy – was something foretold which came true in the future? Did it come through another person, a vision or a dream? What were the details?
- Gift of Healing – was somebody sick and they became well after prayer?
- Gift of Miracles – did an event happen which could only be classed as miraculous? E.g. Corrie ten Boom had a vitamin bottle which never ran out while in the concentration camp.
- Gift of Tongues – was an unknown language spoken by one person (who had no knowledge of that language) and another person understood the message? How did it impact the hearer’s life?
- Interpretation of Tongues – was an unknown language spoken by one person and interpreted by another who also did not speak that language? Did anyone else present understand the message because it was their native tongue? What was the message? How did this impact the lives involved?
- A Word of Wisdom – did God give someone a word of wisdom for a particular situation? This isn’t wisdom that comes from a human mind; this is a word of wisdom which could only have originated in God’s mind. How did God’s word of wisdom change a situation? E.g. Perhaps guidance for a life-changing decision was confirmed through other people? Or perhaps you were warned not to go somewhere averting you from danger?
- A Word of Knowledge – did God give someone specific knowledge for somebody’s situation? What was that specific knowledge which humanly could not have been known?
- Gift of Discernment – did God give you discernment in a particular situation? Perhaps God showed you something which needed to come into the light (which otherwise wouldn’t have been known).
- Gift of Faith – did you have supernatural faith to believe for an outcome which seemed impossible in the natural. E.g. Healing of a terminal illness or finances which were desperately needed.
- Encouragement – did a word of encouragement come at a strategic time? (At a time when nobody would have realised how much you needed comfort).
- Forgiveness - did the Holy Spirit help you to forgive someone?
- Protection in dangerous situation – was there angelic intervention? What was the situation? Did other people observe the angels?
- Anything else which demonstrates the intervention of a loving and powerful God.
